The Food Lover's Tiptionary: An A to Z Culinary Guide With More Than 4000 Food and Drink Tips, Secrets, Shortcuts, and Other Things Cookbooks Never
Published in Paperback by William Morrow (April, 1994)
Author: Sharon Tyler Herbst
Average review score:

Indispensible! All serious cooks need this book.
This book by Sharon Tyler Herbst, author of another indispensible book, the Food Lover's Companion, is a cooks dream come true. It contains solutions for almost every problem you will encounter in the kitchen, from how to properly choose and prepare artichokes to how to fix burned stews and any other question or minor emergency you might encounter in the kitchen. I highly recommend this book.

Can't cook without it!
I bought this book, really by accident, in April of 1998 and have found it an indispensable tool in my kitchen. I love it and often give it as a gift (it makes a nice wedding present, coupled with a cooking utensil, etc.).

This book helped to validate everything my grandmother said!
After completing my most recent cookbook, I ran across this excellent resource. While I consider myself to work mostly on instinct in the kitchen, it is fun to read that you were right all along. Yes, as my grandmother taught me - potatoes are easier to peel when hot. She always made me boil them in their jackets when making potato salad. I had also wondered why lentils sometimes stayed firm after being cooked for the same time as other recipes. The secret is on page 207 and an acidic ingredient is the culprit. From personal experience I knew that I should let a cake cool before frosting it but this could save someone a lot of melted icing if they just didn't think about it. Think of this book as your grandmothers wisdom all in one book. Sharon is truly an expert and has done her research. This book has helped me to realize why things work the way they do and has validated many of my own beliefs. It is an entertaining and education read - just take it by the Tablespoon....there is a wealth of information here.

Her Secret Guardian (Intimate Moments, 1012)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (01 June, 2000)
Author: Sally Tyler Hayes
Average review score:

I want a secret guardian!
magine a man who loves you from afar and always steps in to warn you when your in deadly danger! The two protagonists are an extremely sexy man and a courageous and capable heroine This is the first book of hers that I have read. It definitely won't be the last.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!
In HER SECRET GUARDIAN, we meet Dr. Grace Evans, a woman determined to make a difference striving to forget the horrible event that changed her life forever. We also meet sexy but haunted Sean Patrick Douglass, a man determined to save Grace from herself while trying to make amends for his part in the great tragedy in her past, even if it means losing his life in the process.

HER SECRET GUARDIAN is a spectacular read filled with suspense, drama, action, and heartwrenching romance. It's a page-turner you won't put down until the very end. You'll love it. Trust me.

What a Book!
Grace Evans a doctor for IRC travels all the areas that are devasted by war and natural disasters to help those there. Each time the area becomes volaltile a dark guardian angel comes to tell her that it's time to leave. Grace wonders who he is and why he is doing this but she nonetheless trusts him without a doubt. Through the years she has fantazied about him what he might look like and what he might be like but nothing prepares her or the reader for the type of man he is and what drives him. The climax of the book will steal your breath away and your heart will be touched at the strength of this man and woman and the love which they share. Ms. Tyler is undoubtedly the best! Her command of words goes straight to the heart and blows you away. I've read Cinderella and the Spy and that was good too but nothing made an impact like this book. I look forward to many, many more Division One stories. I can't wait.

Historic Preservation: An Introduction to Its History, Principles, and Practice
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (October, 1999)
Author: Norman Tyler
Average review score:

Excellent for any beginner.
Provides an easy-to-read introduction to the field of historic preservation and the key issues. Bibliography is so-so, but would recommend for students and those interested in a clear and concise overview.

Most readable and comprehensive preservation book
For the past seven years I have worked full time as a historic preservation professional, compiling historic resource surveys, writing nominations for the National Register of Historic Places, and a wide variety of other preservation related projects. I serve on our local historic district commission and have just completed a city-wide survey of Kalamazoo's historic resources. Currently I am also teaching Historic Preservation at Western Michigan University and I was delighted to find Norm Tyler's book. This book is an excellent resource for the beginning preservationist, whether they be a student in a formal academic setting or someone who just likes old buildings. My students find it to be very readable and comprehensive. I am especially pleased to find the variety of real-life examples Tyler presents reflecting the way preservation is practiced and not just idealistic theory. This book was the preferred Christmas gift among preservationists in my area in 2000. I can recommend this book wholeheartedly to anyone interested in preserving our history.

Historic Preservation: A Fresh View
Norm Tyler's new book is a much needed addition to the literature on Historic Preservation. Loaded with fresh examples of the myriad preservation activities taking place across the nation, it also details the context of the movement through analysis of the icons, both human and idealogical, of historic preservation. Clear, concise, and very readable, it will appeal to both the professional and avocationist alike. The inclusion of basic economic, social, and architectural impacts in historic preservation are welcome contributions, and the various charts and lists are extremely useful. I use it at the graduate level as the companion to Fitch's classic: "Historic Preservation."

Bondage on a Budget
Published in Paperback by Pretty Things Press (30 August, 2002)
Authors: Alison Tyler and Dante Davidson
Average review score:

Finding
First off, I'm glad to see this book available again. I first got it 4 years ago, enjoyed it quite a bit and later discovered it had gone out of print. This collection of 69 (yes, 69!) short stories is erotic, fun, spontaneous, and never dull. Anyone reading it will get some great ideas about new ways to use those previously "dull" household items. From ace bandages to wooden spoons to feather dusters to hairbrushes, these stories feature some very imaginative and creative folk finding new ways to have adult fun.

This book will not ever take the place of a good book on erotic power play like SM 101 or Screw the Roses (which I recommend to anyone new to BDSM), but still is an entertaining and sexy read.

So hot you'll get burned!
This sexy anthology is filled with stories for any appetite. It is NOT a how-to manual for S/M enthusiasts, but a collection of fictional stories along the lines of Naughty Stories from A to Z, Sweet Life, Best American Erotica, etc. If you like hot, sexy writing about people pushing the boundaries, you'll definitely like this book. It originally came out a few years ago under the Masquerade imprint, but is now freshly repackaged by Pretty Things Press. The stories are coded by type of story: hetero, lesbian, solo, orgy... very fun!

Best collection of bondage-inspired erotica!
This book is organized in the most unusual ways-by the items used in the stories. There are 69 stories, featuring household objects from floss to flashlights and ace bandages to wallet chains. The stories are flirty and well-written with lots of detail. This is NOT a how-to book, but a collection of really sexy, somewhat risque, occasionallly raunchy stories. The cover is exceptional, too... very colorful and inspired.

Presidencies of William Henry Harrison and John Tyler (American Presidency Series)
Published in Hardcover by Univ Pr of Kansas (June, 1989)
Author: Norma Lois Peterson
Average review score:

A GREAT ANALYSIS!!
THIS BOOK IS TYPICAL OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS PRESS PRESIDENTIAL SERIES. GREAT INSITE OF THE GROWING UNITED STATES DURING OUR POLITCAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE UGLY SIDE OF PERSONAL POLITICS. INTRIGUE REACHED A FEVERED PITCH WITH LESSOR KNOWN INDIVIDUALS ELECTED AS PRESIDENT WHILE THE ICONS, CLAY, BENTON, WEBSTER AND CALHOUN HELD OUR COUNTRY IN THE SENATE.

An important contribution
To my knowledge, this is the most recent bio on John Tyler, our tenth president. Tyler's presidential contributions are debated by scholars. This book highlights past scholarship and is quite detailed on the political events and people surrounding Tyler's presidency. It does an adequate job of setting the stage by explaining what was happening in American culturally and economically at the time of Tyler's term. John Tyler was a president without a party. He was despised and harangued throughout his term, and despite the trememdous pressures, he did some very important things. These acts and their later role on our nation, is well presented in Peterson's book. I still came away with mixed feelings about Tyler. I think this is because the views of him are so contradictory. Another book to compliment this one is Seager's and Tyler Too. Seager's book details Tyler, the man, and his married life to Julia Gardiner. Without reading both books it is tough to get a full picture. Highly recommended for a detailed and comprehensive look at Tyler's presidency. Well researched, many primary sources (letters) and a full bibliography in the back.

A Review: The Presidencies of Wm. H. Harrison and John Tyler
This book fairly and vividly relates the "accidential" presidency of John Tyler. The author conveys the unique difficulties faced by Tyler as he assumes the presidency from W. H. Harrison. In fact, Tyler was most courageous in standing firm against Henry Clay and his Whig cohorts, who tried extremely hard to bully Tyler into submission. Norma Peterson, the author, provides credit where it is due, be it with Tyler or his equally courageous Secretary of State, Daniel Webster. The story in total flows extremely well, and maintains the interest of the reader throughout. The author's stance overall is pro-Tyler, and she bases this on clear reasoning and factual analysis. In total I agree with her position, that Tyler has received far less credit for his accomplishments and strength of presidential character than most historians have given him.

Air Travel is More Fun When You Pay Less
There are two types of people who pay full fare when traveling by air: those with too much money and those who have not read this book.

Air Fare Secrets Exposed describes how to fly as a freelance air courier, buying tickets from consolidators, flying on charters, getting air passes, cashing in on frequent flyer programs, getting compensated for being bumped, finding travel information on the Internet, and a bunch of hidden airfare tips. The Appendix covers passports, visas, immunizations, fees, embassies/consulates, foreign entry requirements, non-fare travel tips, airline telephone numbers, and airport codes. This is an air travel encyclopedia.

Matt Wunder is an intermediate school administrator who lectures on discount travel. Joel Leach is a licensed travel agent who escorts tours worldwide.

As an author, publisher and speaker, I travel a lot. I can testify that this book will save you thousands of dollars. Saving money on travel makes it much more fun. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.

A premiere, one-of-a-kind travel book.
Now in an updated and expanded third edition, Airfare Secrets Exposed is a premiere, one-of-a-kind travel book that explains in practical detail how to find and book incredibly low airfares and buck the high-priced rate for air travel so commonplace today. Joel Leach and Carey Christensen have uncovered dozens and dozens of ways to save up to 50% or more on an airplane ticket -- regardless of destination. Of special interest is the chapter devoted to exposing how airlines set prices so the reader will learn to save by buying on a particular day of the week (a day which varies from airline to airline). another chapter explains about consolidators and bucket shops that sell tickets for 50-70 percent less than the airlines themselves charge. There is even a state-by-state list of consolidators along with instructions on how to shop them competitively for the lowest rates. Airfare Secrets Exposed explains such little-known strategies as using Group Inclusive Tours, Hidden Cities, Promotional Fares, and Tour Discardments. There's even the latest information about Senior Airline Coupons and tricks for maximizing Frequent Flyer points. In just one trip, readers will make back far, far more than the cost of this invaluable, money saving, get-you-there-and-back-for-less-money air travel guide.

How to Make Big Money in Real Estate in the Tighter, Tougher '90s Market
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall Press (09 July, 1992)
Author: Tyler G Hicks
Average review score:

Very Informative!
I agree with the other reviewers, this book was very informative and really drives home that it is important to begin building real estate rental assets. I was really excited and eager to get started after reading it, thank you.

I also recommend "How to Make Fast Cash in Real Estate with No Money Down Deals!" by: Rod L. Griffin, it is very creative.

Reading between the lines is worth your time.
This book is a nice jumping off point into the world of real estate investment.

It can teach you the basics of acquiring profitable real estate investments.

One of the best parts of this book is the emphasis on how to work with flexible sellers to get great leverage, or even buy property with no money down.

This book is a little preachy towards the other informational products that Mr. Hicks has to sell. If you can get past the advertisements, reading between the lines, you will find incredible methods and inspiration for the acquisition of income real estate.

Unlock the Door to Riches
This is really a nice look at tapping the power of real estate. Upon rereading many parts of the book I began to understand Mr. Hicks cold, hard truth in taking over income producing properties through borrowing. The key according to Hicks is being able to borrow as much as possible for an extended time, at the best rate. If this occurs and the rental income covers your mortgage and overhead then you have a self-paying property. (Heavy emphasis on rental income).

Hicks free-wheeling philosophy is tempered with prudent warnings: Positive income over and above expenses must be present. Keep records. Do not be afraid of banks, etc. Do not let the bland book cover fool you...this is a terrific book!

Highly Recommended.
